Overview

About ISPLICE

ISPLICE is Bosa's patented hydraulic compression coupler, designed specifically for situations where bar rotation is impossible — congested rebar cages, fixed-orientation bars, and retrofit applications. The coupler uses a proprietary steel-wedge-plate system activated by a portable hydraulic press, creating a permanent mechanical connection without any threading or rotation of the rebar. Despite its unique no-rotation mechanism, ISPLICE achieves full Type 2 ductility classification under HK CoP 2013 Cl. 3.2.8.4, passing all cyclic tension-compression test stages. This makes it the go-to solution for Hong Kong's most challenging structural connections.

Applications

Where to Use ISPLICE

Congested Rebar Cages

Primary application where bar spacing is too tight to allow rotation for threaded couplers. Common in deep beams, pile caps, and transfer structures.

Fixed-Orientation Bars

Starter bars cast into existing concrete where rotation is physically impossible. Typical in staged construction and top-down methods.

Retrofit & Remedial Works

Connecting new reinforcement to existing structures where bar ends are fixed in position and cannot be rotated.

Seismic-Critical Congested Zones

Beam-column joints and boundary elements where both Type 2 ductility and no-rotation installation are required simultaneously.

Installation

Installation Procedure

1

Bar Preparation

Cut rebar square and clean the bar end. No threading required — the bar is used as-is with the ISPLICE system.

2

Coupler Positioning

Slide the ISPLICE coupler over the first bar end until the bar reaches the centre stop. No rotation needed.

3

Second Bar Insertion

Insert the second bar from the opposite end until it contacts the centre stop. Bars are now aligned axially.

4

Hydraulic Compression

Position the portable hydraulic press and activate. The steel-wedge-plate system compresses to create a permanent mechanical lock.

5

Visual Verification

Confirm the compression indicator shows full engagement. The coupler surface marking verifies proper compression stroke.

Why Choose

ISPLICE Advantages

No Rotation

The only Type 2 coupler in the Bosa range that requires zero bar rotation — critical for congested and fixed-bar scenarios.

Portable Equipment

Lightweight hydraulic press can be operated by a single worker in tight spaces. No heavy machinery required.

Full Ductility

Achieves Type 2 classification despite the compression mechanism — passes all cyclic test stages.

Visual Confirmation

Built-in compression indicator provides instant visual verification of proper installation.
